Born and raised in the Midwest, David studied music and theatre at Union College and the University of Nebraska, obtaining a BA in the Performing Arts.
In 1990, he moved to Los Angeles and began working as a SAG actor on television, appearing in episodes of "Seinfeld" (NBC), "The Naked Truth" (NBC), "My Guide To Becoming A Rock Star" (WB) and others. Unfulfilled with the pursuit of the "Hollywood actor", David returned to his theatre roots on the small, "grassroots" stages of Los Angeles, where he turned his energies to writing and directing. He founded and became the Artistic Director of the Bare Bones Theatre Co., a non-profit collective of actors and writers.
Whether through writing, painting, music or theatre, David has always had a passion for the art of storytelling. Filmmaking is yet another medium for him to do that. So, in 2002, David made the transition from theatre to film by attending the Los Angeles Film School's Immersion Filmmaking Program, where he wrote, produced and directed three short films: ECLIPSED, THE STUDIO... and SUPER MODEL. SUPER MODEL screened at the 2003 Los Angeles International Short Film Festival.
Writing and directing the short film BROKEN, represents David's foray onto the independently financed film scene. David Wendelman is currently in development on his next short film and his first feature.
